Hypochondriac

A Hyperchondriac is a person who suffers from a psychological condition where they are constantly worried about having an illness yet there is no medical evidence to show that they are ill. The Diagnostic Statistical Manual IV-TR classifies this as a somatoform disorder. Causes
Internet and media The internet and the media contribute greatly to hypochondria. This is because they announce any major outbreaks of diseases. When hypochondriacs get wind of any disease outbreak news, they tend to believe that they are developing symptoms of the disease. They perceive their bodies as having already been infected with the disease or feel that they are about to get the disease. The hypochondriac may get paranoid and visit the doctor. Even after a thorough check up by the doctor, the hypochondriac will still not be convinced that they do not have the disease.

For my genius hour, I will be discussing How Medicine Works. We all that when we aren't feeling well, some medicine does the trick to get us better, but what's in it that makes us better? Is it really the medicine, or could it be physiological, only making us think we are feeling better.

There are hundreds of different kinds of medicine which can all have a different purpose. People take medicine like, allergy medication, sleeping medication, cough medicine and antidepressants. Antidepressants work by balancing chemicals in your brain called neurotransmitters. These can change mood and emotions. These depression medicines can help improve your mood, help you sleep better, and increase your appetite and concentration. Some people say that you can start to feel less depressed within only 2 weeks of taking  these kinds of antidepressants, however most people won’t start experiencing the full positive effects of the medicine until 6 to 8 weeks after. Though sometimes, patients dont have the postive effects of anti depressants.
